Flying Eagles striker sets FIFA U20 World Cup target

A key member of the Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, Taiwo Awoniyi, has predicted victory for the team at this year’s edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup which will take place in New Zealand.

In an interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the former U17 World Cu- winning player said it is a possibility for the Nigeria to become the second country after Ghana to lift the FIFA U20 trophy in May.

“This is a good belief that we have in ourselves. We believe that in any tournament we attend we will always go back home with a trophy,” the prolific striker said.

“I believe this is a team that has the mentality to win every game that comes our way. This is a thinking that motivates us to win every of our game in every aspect,” he added.

He said the team will also be there when called upon to serve their Motherland.

“We are always very happy right from the start of each tournament up to the end; we will always be there to make our country and ourselves proud whenever we are invited.”

Flying Eagles will soon begin camping for the FIFA U20 World Cup which will take place in New Zealand this year.
Nigeria is in the Group D with Brazil, Hungary, North Korea. Nigeria’s first game will be against Brazil.
