All Africa Games Football: Zambia force Nigeria to goalless draw

The Nigeria U23 team, the Dream Team VI, were forced to a goalless draw at home in an All-African Game qualifier at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday.

The match proved difficult for the host as the Zambian team showed much tenacity and dominated the Nigeria U23 national team in the presence of a handful of local fans who were at the stadium to lend their support.

An obviously angry Dream Team Coach, Samson Siasia, said he was utterly disappointed in his team.

“I am disappointed in the boys, they have good chances but couldn’t convert it into goals.

“The Zambians used the opportunities against us, they played well too, let’s see what happens in the return leg.

Also speaking after the match, head coach of the Zambian team, Fightoa Simukonda, commended the Nigerian side.

“We have to go home and work, the Nigerian team is a good team and they played well, we also played.

“In football if you don’t use your chances it is bye bye,” he said.

The second leg will be played in Zambia in two weeks.
