Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye on Saturday was the hero for his English Premier League club as he scored the only goal in West Bromwich 1-0 win over Stoke City, which also had another Nigerian, Victor Moses, in their team.
Ideye, who was heavily criticized for spurning chances in last weekend’s FA Cup clash against Aston Villa, found the back of the net in the 19th minute when his teammate Craig Gardner crossed the ball towards him and he managed to hold off Stoke defender Phil Bardsley before heading the ball into the corner of the net.
Attempts by both sides to add any other goal proved abortive as Ideye’s goal was enough to give the Baggies all three points.
Also on Saturday, Arsenal continued their impressive run in the EPL as French International Olivier Giroud scored at the stroke of half-time and two more goals in the second half by Aaron Ramsey and Matthew Flamini to set Arsenal off to a precious 3-0 win against West Ham United at the Emirates.
Also, Aston Villa provided their best display of the season as they surprisingly secured a 4-0 win away at the Stadium of Light against a hapless Sunderland side.
Gabriel Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke scored a brace each as Villa continued their upward swing on the table as they battle for survival in the EPL.
Agbonlahor was on target 18th and 37th minute as Villa are now out of the relegation zone in 16th place with 28 points from 29 games.
In another game, Sone Aluko and his Hull City teammates got a point away from home as they battled Leicester City to a 0-0 draw.
Crystal Palace 3 – 1 Queens Park Rangers
Arsenal 3 – 0 West Ham United
Leicester City 0 – 0 Hull City
Sunderland 0 – 4 Aston Villa
West Bromwich Albion 1 – 0 Stoke City
