Nigerian League: Gabros secures victory against Wolves

The newly promoted Gabros FC marked their comeback to the Nigeria Premier League with a 2-0 win in one of the Sunday matches in the opening weekend of the 2014/15 League season.

Warri Wolves, who are representing Nigeria in the CAF Confederations Cup, were hoping they could get something off their hosts but that was not to be as Gabros secured maximum points with the 2-0 win.

Monday Osagie scored Gabros’ first goal in the 38th minute after connecting well to a corner kick from his teammate before Onyekachi Nwaiwu sealed victory with the second goal in 90th minute to give the Premier League newcomers a dream start in the elite division.

In other matches, former League Champions and current Federations Cup winners, Enyimba International, started the League season on a rather disappointing note as they could only manage a goalless draw against visiting Akwa United.
There was a five-goal thriller in Jalingo where Taraba United beat Enugu Rangers 3-2; and in neighbouring Bauchi, the duel between Wikki Tourist and Shooting Stars ended 2-0 in favour of the home team.

As directed by the LMC, the League defending champions, Kano Pillars, did not play this week due to the armed robbery attack they experienced on their way to play an away match against Heartland FC.
