Chelsea win Capital One Cup

The London club, Chelsea, have scooped their first trophy for the season after beating neighbours, Tottenham Hotspurs, 2-0 in the final of the Capital One Cup at the Wembley Stadium.

Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, was missing for the Blues as he is recovering from an injury but that did not hamper Jose Mourinho’s side from going all out to win the first of the three trophies they are still in contention for this season.

After early exchanges did not provide the result wanted by both sides, the Blues took the lead at the tail end of the first-half, as skipper John Terry fired into the back of the net from point-blank range after the ball bounced off the chest of Eric Dier in the 45th minute.

Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 56th minute through Diego Costa after Cesc Fabregas received the ball in the middle of the pitch and spun before setting up the former Atletico Madrid point man who fired a fierce shot that deflected past Hugo Lloris via Kyle Walker.

Attempts for a late rally by Spurs were resisted by the Blues who held on to their 2-0 advantage and thus seal their fifth League Cup triumph.

With this now out of the way, Chelsea will be looking to add the EPL title and the biggest of them, the UEFA Champions League, to their collection at the end of the season.
