There are strong indications that Nigerian midfielder, Mikel Obi, will miss the trip to the Wembley Stadium when his team, Chelsea FC, takes on fellow London club Tottenham Hotspurs in this year’s Capital One Cup finals on March 1.
Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, only recently told reporters at his last press conference before Saturday’s game against Burnley that Mikel will be out of action for at least two more weeks.
“Mikel is still out and will be for another two weeks minimum. He has no other fitness concern,” the Portuguese gaffer said.
Mikel, who played most of the Capital One Cup games for Chelsea, last featured for the Blues on February 7, 2015 in the EPL game against Aston Villa where Chelsea scraped in a 2-1 win.
The absence of Mikel owing to his knee injury has not badly affected Chelsea who are bolstered by the return to fitness and form of Brazilian midfielder, Ramires, who played alongside Nemanja Matic in the recent Premier League games given the absence of Cesc Fabregas due to a hamstring injury.
With the injury setback, it is yet to be seen if Mikel will be selected for the Super Eagles double-header against Bolivia and Ghana later in March in the FIFA free windows as the player may be match rusty even if he has fully recovered from the knock that has put him in the side-lines in recent weeks.
