Ghana’s U20 team, the Black Satellites, on Monday in Accra came from behind twice to force out a 2-2 draw against Nigeria’s Flying Eagles.
Both the Flying Eagles and the Black Satellites are preparing for next month’s African Youth Championship in Senegal.
The Nigeria U20 team, coached by Manu Garba, has so far been unbeaten in their build-up games and were determined to keep the enviable record when they shot into the lead in Monday’s game.
In the 22nd minute, Musa Yahaya scored the opener.
The hosts rallied back and secured an equaliser in the 35th minute, before Chidera Eze put the Flying Eagles back in front with his 40th minute strike which gave Nigeria the advantage at the end of the first half.
Not willing to go down, the Black Satellites threw in all they had for the second half and they were rewarded as they got a goal more in the second half to end the game at 2-2.
The two teams will on Wednesday play themselves again before the Flying Eagles return to Nigeria on Thursday, February 19.
Meanwhile, Coach Garba has expressed his confidence his team will triumph at the African Youth Championship even though they have been drawn in a tough first round group that has hosts Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire and Congo.
The AYC will be played between March 8 and 22.
The Flying Eagles have won a record six AYC titles with their last triumph being in 2011. They finished third at the last edition held in Algeria.
