AFCON 2015: Cote d’Ivoire emerges African champions

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire have finally ended their wait for an Africa Cup of Nation title as they showed nerves on Sunday night to defeat the Black Stars of Ghana 9-8 on penalties in a tension-soaked final match.

The Elephants were close on a couple of occasions to adding to their solitary triumph recorded as far back as 1992 but have failed until the 2015 edition.

Keeper Boubacar Barry was the hero for the Elephants as he denied his opposite number Brimah Razak, and then fired the next spot kick into the net to hand Herve Renard’s men the victory.

The French Coach, Renard, has written his name on the sands of time as he becomes the first coach to win the coveted trophy for two different countries having also won same for Zambia in 2012.
