Chelsea regained their three-point cushion at top of the EPL standings following a 2-0 victory over Stoke City on Monday night at the Britannia Stadium.
A goal in each half, first from John Terry in the second minute of play and then Cesc Fabregas in the 78th minute ensured that the Blues pulled away from reigning champions Manchester City who are keeping a tough chase against Jose Mourinho’s men.
On a night Nigerian star, John Obi Mikel, was celebrating a milestone; making his 250th EPL start for Chelsea, the Blues opened the scoring in the second minute when John Terry powered in a header from Cesc Fabregas’ corner.
Despite the flurry of chances that came afterwards for the two teams, the other goal in the exciting encounter did not come until the 78th minute when Fabregas collected Eden Hazard’s pass inside the box, before scuffing an effort across goal and into the bottom corner.
Stoke did make a strong charge to get at least a consolation goal but the Blues held out the rest of the match to claim the three points that has ensured top spot in the league on Christmas Day.
