The downward slide of the Super Eagles on the monthly FIFA rankings continued on Thursday as Nigeria moved from 37th to 42nd position in the October edition released by the world football governing body.
The Eagles played two matches in the period under review which is double header against Sudan in which they lost the first leg by a lone goal in Khartoum before rallying to a 3-1 win in Abuja in the reverse fixture.
With the latest drop, the Eagles have also lost ground on the continent as they are now ranked 9th in Africa far behind teams like Cape Verde and Tunisia.
Interestingly, when Coach Stephen Keshi came on board, the Eagles were in 43rd position and despite the big grounds covered during his reign, the Eagles are 42nd by the time the Big Boss left the scene.
While the Eagles struggle on the rankings, the Desert Foxes of Algeria have continued to soar as they have now moved to 15th place on the log (their highest placement ever).
The North Africans are 10 places ahead of the next African team which is Ivory Coast.
In the October edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, the first three positions are unchanged from last month. Germany have held on to the top spot despite a difficult start to their UEFA EURO 2016 qualification campaign.
According to FIFA, 141 matches were taken into account for the October edition of the world ranking, exactly the same number as last month.
Of those matches, 49 were European qualifiers, 28 were African qualifiers, 10 were CONCACAF qualifiers, and 54 were friendlies.
In total, 667 matches have been taken into account over the course of the year so far.
