Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel was handed 23 minutes of playing time on Saturday by Coach Jose Mourinho as Chelsea cruised to 3-0 win over Aston Villa to cement their place at the top of the English Premier League table for at least another week.
Mikel, who is in the 24-man Super Eagles list released on Friday by Coach Stephen Keshi for the upcoming games against Sudan, was introduced into the game against Aston Villa as a replacement for Brazilian Oscar who scored the first goal for the Blues.
Chelsea now have 16 points from six games and their closest rivals, Southampton, have 13 points from the same number of games.
While Mikel was enjoying action with Chelsea, it was not the same for his compatriot, Sone Aluko, who also has been invited for the Sudan games. Aluko was not dressed for Hull City that fell 2-4 to Manchester City at home.
Also, Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday when they edged past West Ham United 2-1 at Old Trafford but the victory was dented by the needless red card got by Captain Wayne Rooney.
In the day’s earlier game, Brendan Rodgers felt Liverpool did not get what they deserved after a 1-1 draw at home to Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool appeared likely to record a third Premier League win of the season following Captain Steven Gerrard’s fine 65th minute free-kick.
However, Everton centre-half, Phil Jagielka, lashed in an equaliser in added time to leave Rodgers in rueful mood after the stalemate.
