The Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, is replacing goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama with Elkanemi of Maiduguri’s first choice keeper, David Obiazor, for the 2015 first leg qualifier against Congo in Calabar.
Enyeama is absent for personal reasons.
“We have been monitoring the Nigerian league and we see that the keeper of Elkanemi is a talent that is why we want to give him a trial. We will see how it turns out when he comes to camp,” Keshi said in a press statement signed by the team’s spokesperson, Ben Alaya.
Nine players trained in the morning at the team’s camp on Tuesday in Calabar. They were later joined towards lunchtime by eight others: Ahmed Musa, Ogenyi Onazi, Efe Ambrose, Kenneth Omeruo, Juwon Oshaniwa, Sone Aluko, John Mikel Obi and standing captain, Austin Ejide. The Super Eagles technical crew are expecting more players to join the camp by evening.
Mikel’s entrance was particularly hilarious as he came in with hand gloves owing to a fear of the Ebola Virus Disease.
“Coach I have up to four hand gloves and if you don’t mind, I can hand one pair to you,” he joked to Keshi while the rest of the team laughed.
According to the press statement, the spirit in camp is very buoyant and Keshi says he expects the best from the players on Saturday in the game against Congo.
