Arsenal waited till the last minute to secure a late winner over Crystal Palace as the Gunners smiled away with a 2-1 victory in their opening game of the Premier League season.
Aaron Ramsey completed Arsenal’s comeback as Arsene Wenger’s men showed character to come from a goal down to snatch the opening day win which incidentally is their 100th League win at the Emirates Stadium.
Brede Hangeland gave Crystal Palace the lead in the 35th minute via a header before Arsenal got back on level terms in the 46th minute through French centre back, Laurent Koscehiny.
While many thought the game would end all square, Ramsey’s sublime finish swung the tie in favour of Arsenal who smiled away with the 2-1 win.
Elsewhere, Leicester City capped their return to the Premier League with a remarkable 2-2 draw against Everton. A similar score line was also recorded in the West Brom and Sunderland duel in which Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, featured prominently while his compatriot, Brown Ideye, was denied an anticipated debut show.
Unlike Leicester, QPR did not enjoy such a happy welcome back to the top flight as James Chester’s bullet header gave Hull a 1-0 win at Loftus Road.
There was heartbreak for Stoke City as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Aston Villa. Neither new signing, Victor Moses, nor his Nigerian compatriot, Osaze Odemwingie, was dressed for the tie.
Tottenham on their part also enjoyed a 1-0 away win over West Ham after a dramatic late winner at Upton Park.
Two matches on Sunday and one on Monday will complete the opening week of the EPL.
Premier League results:
West Ham 0-1 Tottenham
Leicester 2-2 Everton
West Brom 2-2 Sunderland
Stoke 0-1 Aston Villa
QPR 0-1 Hull
Manchester United 1-2 Swansea
