NFF disqualifies Odegbami, Ogunjobi, Umeh; clears Giwa FC boss for President

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, on Wednesday disqualified three major aspirants for the office of the President of the federation.

Those disqualified include ex-Nigerian international and 1980 Nations Cup winner, Segun Odegbami; former scribe of the NFF, Taiwo Ogunjobi; and current Acting Chairman of the Federation, Victor Umeh.

The disqualification, unless upturned by the appeals committee, leaves Chris Giwa, the owner of the Nigerian Premier League side, Giwa FC, as the sole candidate for the President of the NFF.

Mr. Giwa is believed to be favoured candidate of the Sports Minister, Tamuno Danagogo.

The NFF elections are scheduled for August 26.

The election has been rigged at source!!!

  • Wähala

    Disqualified for what reasons???
Giwa to contest against himself… he will certainly win!
This selection is undemocratic and symbolic of this Govt’s disregard for fair and free elections despite lip services. We live in a democracy and FIFA or whoever is breathing over the NFF should be made to realize that this is mega… Nonsense!

The NFF elections are scheduled for April 26.

Odegbami is Mr. Football. When are we going to learn to give honor to whom it is due?

  • Okey

What goes around comes around. This is Segun Odegbami’s just desert. Some years ago Odegbami colluded with government officials to betray the then NFA Chairman, Alhaji Galadima. Today, Odegbami wants that same position as he desperately thought he would be then. This is his just desert.

Everything in Nigeria is wrapped up in politics. I do not know this gentleman but shouldn’t ability to manage something, for eg run a club, be a factor in hiring an NFF president? English FA is now run by Greg Dyke. His last major job? Director General of BBC and also was chairman of a small club. Ever a professional footballer? Nope. Wolfgang Niersbach, President of German Football Federation, was editor of a sports news agency and press officer for FIFA. Played professional football? Nope.
