Super Eagles striker, Shola Ameobi, has signed for Turkish 2.Lig side, Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor, on a free transfer.
The former Newcastle United forward, who was part of the Nigerian squad to the Brazil 2014 World Cup, will hope to get the best of times in Turkey which houses a lot of Nigerian players both in the top and lower divisions.
Ameobi will be playing for another club for the first time safe for a brief loan stint away from St James Park where he served the Magpies for 14 years.
Before settling for the Turkey deal, Ameobi was reportedly on the wish list of some Championship side in England. The 32-year-old was even linked with a host of clubs in Australia’s A-League but has opted for the modest Turkish 2.Lig side to continue his career.
Ameobi hails from Kabba in Kogi State and has played 9 matches for the Super Eagles scoring two goals.
