The coach is confident that the team will win the tournament.
The Head Coach of the Falconets, Peter Dedevbo, has declared his confidence in his team, adding that he believes that he has assembled the best legs in Nigeria.
The team is currently competing in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Canada.
In a press statement by the team’s spokesperson, Elizabeth Carr, Dedevbo was quoted as saying, “I have assembled some of the best players in the country. They are smart and experienced. “
Speaking from the team camp in Canada, he noted that some players were drawn from the U 17 team that went to Costa Rica and others from the Super Falcons.
He said the team had played a couple of friendly matches before the tournament and plans to win the trophy.
“I’m aware of the previous records of the team. I’m confident this time around that my target is to bring home the trophy,” he said.
Speaking on Falconets first match against Mexico, the former Flamingo coach said the players were physically and mentally ready for the match.
“I’m confident with the level of training we have. Mark my words; the team will make Nigeria proud” he assured.
Ahead of their first match against Mexico, team captain, Patience Okaeme, said the team would win all their matches.
“We owe it to ourselves to make Nigeria proud by winning not only our first match but all our matches,” she said.
Team members, Sarah Nnodim and Courtney Dike, said the players were going into the game as a team and would remain together in unity.
“We are happy the team is not built around particular players. That unity will give us the needed victory. We urge our Nigerians to pray for the good outing for the team,” they said.
The Nigeria/Mexico match comes up on Wednesday, August 6 by 8 p.m. Canadian time and, 12 midnight Nigerian time.
The match will be played at the Moncton Stadium.
