Nigeria’s under-21 male and female beach volleyball teams on Thursday lost their opening matches at the ongoing FIVB U-21 Male and Female Beach Volleyball World Championships in Larnaka, Cyprus.
In the match results placed on the website of the Federation of International Volleyball, FIVB, the male team lost 0-2 to hosts Cyprus 11-21, 11-21.
The female team on the other hand also lost 0-2 to Austria 16-21, 16-21.
The male team, drawn in Pool A, will now meet Kazakhstan in their second match later on Thursday before confronting Norway in a morning match on Friday.
They will take on Switzerland on Friday evening, before facing Niger Republic in their last Pool match on Saturday.
For the female team drawn in Pool D, they will square up against Japan later on Thursday, Mexico on Friday morning and Brazil on Friday evening.
Italy will be the female team’s last opponents in Pool D on Saturday.
The championships which started on July 23 will end on July 27.
