Brazil’s quest for a record sixth World Cup title will have to continue without their talisman Neymar as the Barcelona forward has fractured a vertebra and is out for four to six weeks, meaning that he is out of the World Cup.

The striker, who was taken to a private clinic for x-rays after he was stretchered off in agony during Friday night’s 2-1 quarter-final victory over Colombia that saw Brazil book their place in the semi finals, is understandably devastated by the development.

Neymar was kneed in the back by Juan Camilo Zuniga and was crying in pain, seen attached to a drip on his way to hospital.

The diagnosis on the Brazilian prodigy reveals a fractured third lumbar vertebra, which means a month on the sidelines.

This effectively ends the World Cup for Neymar who has scored four goals in five games for the Seleçao at the competition.

“It is a fracture that will take a few weeks to recover from,” explained Brazilian team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar.
