A second half goal by Mario Balotelli ensured Italy defeated England, 2-1, in the second match of Group D of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The two teams matched each other in a highly entertaining encounter that saw both teams score one goal each in the first half.
Claudio Marchisio scored for Italy in the 35th minute before a quick equaliser by Daniel Sturridge two minutes later. Sturridge slot the ball in the net following a Wayne Rooney cross.
Balotelli’s 50th minute goal means Italy are now second in Group D with three points and a +1 goal difference.
Costa Rica are top of the group after defeating Uruguay 3-1 in the first match of the group.
