The measure was put in place to safeguard lives and property
The Plateau State Police Command on Thursday banned the operations of all football viewing centres in the state.
The ban was announced via a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dominic Esin.
“This is to inform members of the public, particularly owners of football viewing centres, and football fans that there is a total ban on football viewing centres in every nook and cranny of the state in respect of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.
“This precautionary measure is aimed at forestalling warnings of impending attacks on these viewing centres by any person or group of persons and to secure an atmosphere of peace and security on the Plateau, “ Mr. Esin said.
He advised football fans to stay away from such centres or watch all the matches of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup in their respective houses.
He said the measure was put in place to safeguard lives and property of citizens.
Three weeks ago, hundreds of football fans narrowly escaped a bomb explosion at a popular football viewing centre along Bauchi Road in Jos. However, four passers-by were killed in the explosion.
The statement warned that anyone who violated the order would be made to face the wrath of the law.
