Club says player was “cleared” after transfer to Rangers.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Warri Wolves football club, Davison Owumi, has declared that any financial interest coming to Chigozie Agbim, either as a result of his participation in the World Cup or any other assignment anywhere in the World, would be claimed by Warri Wolves he is yet to completely join any other team.
Mr. Owumi, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Professional Football League, disclosed to PREMIUM TIMES, through Moses Etu, Warri Wolves’ spokesperson, on Friday.
He said Warri Wolves gave Agbim out to Rangers with an agreement that the Wolves would receive N8 million for the player.
“It is a fact which has been acknowledged in the past by the player that he belonged to Warri Wolves and Rangers International came for him with an agreement that they would pay N8 million.
“But as I am talking to you, no kobo has been paid and we have notified those that should know in football in the country. We kept quiet since because we did not want to jeopardise the chances of the player as regards going to the World Cup, which has always been our principle not to stand on the way of any player. However, nobody can reap where he did not sow,” Owumi said.
He noted that Agbim, who currently plays for Gombe United, was “cleared” before joining Warri Wolves.
“We cleared Chigozie Agbim before he came to Warri Wolves and we expect anybody who wants him to clear him from us. There are rules governing this game and I am sure all of us know this,” he said.
Meanwhile, Owumi, known in his playing days as Okada, has commended the players of Warri Wolves for their fighting spirit and for garnering seven points from their last three matches. He urged them to continue to do their best as the club management would always reward hard work.
“I want to commend you for your performance in the last three matches and I will want you to continue this way. We shall on our part reward you as your welfare shall be taken care of,” said Owumi, a former manager of Rangers International FC.
