14 wrestlers to represent Nigeria at Commonwealth Games – Igali

The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 3.

The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, on Monday said that 14 wrestlers would represent the country at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

Mr. Igali said in Yenagoa that the Edwin Clark National Championship, which opened in Warri on Monday, would be used to select the wrestlers.

The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 3.

Mr. Igali said, “The Edwin Clark Wrestling Competition will help us is selecting our wrestlers for the Commonwealth Games. We are using the classics as a trial benchmark for the wrestlers because it is the biggest championship before the Commonwealth Games. I believe we have the talents here in Nigeria; the challenge we are facing is lack of funding and sponsorship. We need adequate funding to move the game forward. As I am talking to you, the wrestlers are yet to commence camping for the commonwealth games.”

He said the Edwin Clark National Championship, which would end on June 7, was coming at the right time.
