Enyeama was voted best African player in the French Ligue 1.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, on Sunday, in Paris, scooped the RFI – FRANCE 24 Marc-Vivien Foé Award for the best African player in the French Ligue 1 football championship for the 2013-14 season.
Enyeama, however, missed out on the official award for players’ in the Ligue 1.
PSG’s Salvatore Sirigu was shockingly picked ahead of the stand-in Super Eagles captain in the official awards organised by the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels, UNFP, the umbrella body of professional players in France.
To emerge as Africa’s best import to the French top League, Enyeama garnered more votes than other nominees: Ivory Coast defender, Serge Aurier (Toulouse FC) and Cameroon international player Henri Bedimo (Olympique Lyonnais).
Enyeama indeed was in spectacular form for Lille this season keeping as much as 21 clean sheets including 11 straight ones.
The 31-year old shot-stopper will be in between the sticks for Nigeria at the Brazil World Cup and there is hope he will be able to replicate his superb club form for the Eagles at the Mundial.
With 82 caps to his credit in the national team, Enyema is set for his third world cup outing with Nigeria after making his debut at the Korea/Japan edition in 2002.
