The winner of the championship will get N1 million.
The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Tijani Umar, has said the top 3 teams at the end of this year’s edition of the Zenith female basketball championship would take home a price money of over N2 million. This is part of a new N90 million sponsorship deal with the bank.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Mr. Umar said the money will be given to the winners in Lagos.
“Price money will be presented in Lagos, the first team will take N1 million home, the first and second runners up will be given N750,000 and N500,000 respectively,” he said.
He explained that part of the sponsorship deal with Zenith will be used to support the teams.
“This year we got N25 million and about 45 per cent of the sponsorship fee is going to be used to support all the 16 participating teams in the league,” he said.
The NBBF last week signed a renewed three-year partnership deal with Zenith worth N90 million. The money is broken down as N25 million for 2014, N30 million for 2015 and N35 million for 2016.
“There has been 35 per cent increase in the sponsorship deal and we are only hoping and working towards getting things better by the day. 45 per cent of the total sum will be made available for participating teams and no federation has been able to do give teams up to this,” he concluded.
The Zenith Bank women’s basketball league season dunked off in Abuja on Friday.
