CAF picks Kenya to host 2018 CHAN, appoints Nigeria’s Bassey into “committee of experts”

CAF picked Kenya at a meeting held in Cairo, Egypt.

Kenya will be hosting the 2018 African Nations Championship, CHAN, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, has decided.

This was one of the decisions arrived at during the continental football governing body’s Executive Committee meeting held in Cairo, Egypt on February 21.

According to a statement on the confederation’s website, the decision followed the receipt of necessary government guarantees and complete dossier, including the required infrastructure and security.

Also, at the meeting, a five-member committee was constituted to inspect the six candidate-countries for the 2019 and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The six teams bidding for the hosting are Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Algeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Zambia.

The committee members include CAF Executive members Amadou Diakite from Mali and Adoum Djibrine from Chad, as well as FIFA expert Walter Gagg from Switzerland.

The others are Nigeria’s Paul Bassey who is a CAF expert and Amr Fahmy who is the Tournament Director of Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the statement, the group of experts will be in Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea in April, Algeria and Cameroon in May, and DR Congo and Zambia in July 2014.

It added that the voting to select the host countries for the 2019 & 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will be conducted during its Executive Committee meeting in September 2014.
