Enyimba is aiming to win the CAF Championship for the third time.
Nigeria’s representatives in this year’s CAF Championship, Enyimba International and Kano Pillars on Sunday were in action but ended their respective games in different fashions.
Playing in Aba, Enyimba got their campaign to a fairly bright start as they defeated Togolese side, Anges de Noste of Togo 3-1. Former Nigerian League top scorer, Sibi Gwar scored twice for the Peoples Elephants as they take a two goal advantage going into the second leg in Lome in a fortnight.
The Aba Landlords who have won the Champions League twice in their history have stated that they hope to win a third time; a mission they seem to have started on the right footing.
While Enyimba got off to a winning start, it was not the same for Kano Pillars who interestingly were also beaten 3-1 in their own away game against AS Vita in Congo.
Rabiu Ali, fresh from the CHAN tournament in South Africa got the only goal for Pillars as the Nigeria League champions now have a tough task of beating their Congolesee opponent squarely in the second leg in Kano in two weeks’ time.
While in Kinshasa, Kano Pillars lost 1-3 to AS Vita of DRC, Rabiu Alli scored their solitary goal.
