3.50 p.m: The stands for now are near empty and the closing ceremony is already over . below is the Home based Eagles’ squad for the Zimbabwe match.

Referee calls it a wrap , both teams head back to the dressing room after over 15 minutes warm up exercises.

4.06 pm: Nigeria misses a goal scoring opportunity as the striker shoots wide

4:07: Nigeria’s Abubakar Ibrahim booked for diving. Replay shows referee was wrong.

4:18: Mambare of Zimbabwe fouls Nigeria’s goalkeeper Agbim; gets a red card. 16 minutes played. #CHAN2014

4:20: Agbim is back on his feet. Nigeria now a man up after the red card to Mambare of Zimbabwe. Score 0-0. #CHAN2014

Note that  Zimbabwe has conceded only one goal in open play in CHAN. Nigeria has conceded eight.

Injured Gbolahan Salami is in the stands, he is seated in between Eagles’ media officer Ben Alaiya and Team Psychologist Robinson Okosun

4:28: Twenty-eight minutes played. The Nigeria sports supporters club conspicuously missing out here at the Cape Town Stadium even as the Eagles have the best of the early chances.

4:39: Nigeria’s Abdullahi Shehu is receiving treatment for an injury.

4:34: Nigeria misses another chance after a good play from the left wing. #CHAN2014

4:38: Zimbabwe goalkeeper saves a shot from Nigerian striker

4:45: Nigeria’s Abubakar Ibrahim wastes a chance provided by Pyagbara.

4: 48:  It’s been far from an entertaining game here at the Cape Town Stadium as referee announces additional five minutes of  playing time.

All boos for centre referee Victor Miguel after waving off the penalty appeal from the Zimbabweans, he has already sounded his whistle to end the first half

Despite playing over 25 mins against 10-man Zimbabwe, Nigeria yet to score. Should the second half end like the first (a draw), game would go straight to penalties. No Extra Time.

5:06: Second Half starts. Neither Nigeria nor Zimbabwe made changes at half time.

5:08: Nigeria’s Francis Benjamin is stretched off. Likely to be replaced

5:10: Coach Keshi planning double substitution, Ejike Uzoenyi and Umar Zango set to be introduced to the game

5:12: Double substitution for Nigeria. Uzoenyi and Zango come in.  Christantus Ejike Uzoenyi (Christantus) replaces injured Francis Benjamin while Zango Umar replaces Uzochukwu

5:14: Zimbabwean shot hits the side net. Match still stands at 0-0. #CHAN2014

5:19: Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper being treated for a wrist injury. He’s only conceded a goal in #CHAN2014

5: 27: Ten-man Zimbabwean team surprisingly still threatening the Eagles defence.

5:29: Ghana fans join voices to cheer Super Eagles. Solidarity at its best at the Cape Town Stadium

5:32: Rabiu Ali comes in for Nigeria

5:32: Obiozor ruled offside, shot hits cross bar.  Zimbabwean goalkeeper Chigoba gets a yellow card for time wasting.

5: 39: Ejike’s shot saved by the Zimbabwean goalkeeper.

5:47: Nigeria scores. Super Eagles on their way to clinching the bronze medal of the championship. Chinonso Obiozor scores a header from Ejike’s well taken cross. Nigeria leads Zimbabwe 1-0. 87 minutes played.

5:56: Match in the final minutes. Zimbabwe desperate for an equalizer. Nigeria holding on to its lead.

Game ends: Nigeria wins 1-0. Super Eagles Get Bronze.

Congrats Nigeria for the third place finish. The Super Eagles only played in CHAN for the first time, and a bronze medal is not a bad start.
