Nigeria won 6-0
The Nigeria Women U20 team, Falconets, are close to securing a ticket to the U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada as they romped to an impressive 6-0 first leg win over their South African counterparts in the final round of qualifiers played at the Abuja National Stadium, Saturday afternoon.
While many had thought the South Africans would pose a difficult hurdle for the Nigerian team, the reverse was the case as the Coach Peter Dedevho tutored side scored three goals each in the first and second half to take the driver’s seat going into the second leg.
Asisat Oshoala and Halimatu Ayinde set the ball rolling for the Falconets; scoring in the 3rd and 5th minute of the first half before Yetunde Adeboyejo made it three before the half-hour mark.
The first half ended 3-0 in favour of the Falconets; and on resumption of the second half the Falconets continued from where they stopped.
This time it was Winifred Eyebhoria, Sunday Uchechi-Lopes and Halimatu Ayinde again who found the back of the net to seal a comfortable 6-0 win for Nigeria ahead of the second leg in a fortnight in South Africa.
Nigeria has qualified for all the previous editions of the U20 Women’s World Cup and looks certain to do so yet again with Saturday’s comprehensive victory.
