The game ended in a 2-2 draw
The home based Super Eagles squad had what could pass for their biggest test in their build-up to the Africa Nations Championships, CHAN, when they battled Premier League champions, Kano Pillars, to a 2-2 draw on Monday at the Abuja National Stadium.
Though the Eagles got the first goal, the League champions responded with two goals. The Stephen Keshi-tutored Eagles had to double their effort to avoid what could have been their first defeat in the series of friendly match.
Abubakar Ali and Rabiu Ali were the goal scorers for the South Africa bound Eagles while Bello Koformota made a case for himself for a possible look in by the national team handlers as he netted a brace for Kano Pillars with one of the goals coming from the penalty spot.
Before now the Eagles have enjoyed wins in their previous test games against Prison FC (4-1), Plateau United (2-0) and Niger Tornadoes (2-0).
Super Eagles first match at CHAN will be against Mali on January 11, 2014. They will then play against South Africa and Mozambique in the group stage of the competition.
