The sports minister called for accountability in the sporting federations.
The National Sports Commission, NSC, on Tuesday in Abuja inaugurated the recently elected board and chairmen of sports commissions.
The event, which was attended by the chairmen and their board members, was presided over by the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, who asked the various federations to immediately start preparations towards next year’s Commonwealth Games in London.
In his speech, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the new boards will contribute positively Nigerian sports.
“I’m sure their tenure will usher in new techniques and tremendous development for Nigerian sports,” he said.
Also, Mr. Abdullahi urged the new sporting broads to be prudent in their activities.
“We except accountability from the federations,” he said.
The minister, who is also the chairman of the NSC, also asked the federations to commence the process of drafting their own statutes to
guide the federations. He asked the federations to submit the statutes with six months.
“We are here to support all sports and we are here to vet all the programmes you are proposing; we want to deliver results,” he said.
The federations are expected to start work immediately.
