Lulu was impeached in 2010
The former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Sani Lulu, has revealed plans to contest for his old position at the Federation’s general election in 2014.
Mr. Lulu, who was impeached in 2010 over alleged financial impropriety, told PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday in Abuja that he was ready to re-contest. He added that he was being pressured to return.
“The stakeholders wants me to come back to the NFF. There has been a lot of pressure from different angles all over the country and after thinking over their proposals, I have decided to give it a go,” he said.
“I really don’t know who else will contest for the post, but I have agreed and I want to say it openly that I’m going to run for the 2014 elections, office of the President precisely.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Lulu has a pending suit against him in court, stemming from his alleged mismanagement of the Federation’s funds while he was President.
However, Mr. Lulu told PREMIUM TIMES that, since he was yet to be convicted, he was free to contest.
“I have not been convicted, we have a pending case in court, and this will not stop me from contesting the election, I have already made up my mind,” he said.
