Liverpool lost 0-1 to Manchester United.
Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses, and his Liverpool teammates have crashed out of the 2013 Capital One Cup after suffering a lone goal defeat in the hands of Manchester United.
The Reds who welcomed back Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez, into their fold after serving out a 10-match ban for biting, threatened all night but failed to find the back of the net.
In a match of many chances it was Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez who netted an early second-half winner.
Hernandez diverted in Wayne Rooney’s corner, just 39 seconds after the restart at Old Trafford, to put United into the last 16 of the League Cup.
Suarez also tried to make his return count for Liverpool but he hit the crossbar with a 72nd-minute free-kick.
Nigeria international Victor Moses also went close to equalising with a header but was denied by a superb save by the United goalkeeper.
London club Arsenal also pulled through but had to rely on the lottery of penalty kicks to see-off a resolute West Brom side.
Both sides were tied on 1-1 after 120minutes of action but the Gunners were the luckier in the resultant kicks to win 4-3.
In other games, Newcastle defeated Leeds United 2-0 at the St James Park while defending champions Swansea United have been knocked out after losing 3-1 to Birmingham City.
