The coach said he has not been briefed on the NFF’s decision.
The Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has been asked to cut down his list of 42 players invited for the World Cup qualifier against Malawi to 33.
Keshi had invited 24 Nigerian based and 18 foreign based players to camp for the match fixed for September 7 in Calabar. The coach also said he would use the camp to assess the home based players that could represent Nigeria at the African Nations Championship, CHAN.
However, the Technical Committee of the NFF after its meeting on Tuesdayevening said inviting 24 Nigerian based players for the match was a distraction.
“The CHAN is in January, we have so much time. We want him to harmonise his list, get us a list of 33 whether home or foreign based for us to look at for the match against Malawi,” stated the NFF technical committee spokesperson Paul Bassey.
“The technical committee has seen the list he put forward and we are suggesting that we don’t want any distractions from the game against Malawi, so Keshi is to prune the list and they are to report on the 1st of September,” he added.
Keshi has however said the NFF is yet to communicate its decision to him and he would not comment until he receives an official notification of the decision of the technical committee.
