The minister said Nigeria can do more.
The Nigerian sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, has expressed disappointment with Nigeria’s performance at the World Championship in Moscow, Russia.
Mr. Abdullahi, who just arrived from Moscow, told PREMIUM TIMES he was not satisfied because he believed Nigeria could do better than the silver and bronze medals it received.
“I’m very excited that we are coming back from a very highly rated world championship and we won medals for the first time in 14years. I am not satisfied because we are not doing enough, the experience made me see further what other countries are doing because we need much more,” he said.
He praised Blessing Okagbare, who won the two medals, for a wonderful performance at the tournament.
“Blessing has made us very proud, she’s an amazing talent and I believe she can inspire the new generation of younger athletes that can see prospects in whatever they do,” he said.
The minister also praised home-based athletes for the performances at the event.
Nigeria won silver and bronze medals at the World International Athletics championship in Moscow ending a 14 years no medal drought.
Speaking on the future plans, the sport minister has said “We have realized what we need to do and we will do it, we have a commonwealth game coming up next year we will start preparation on time for the tournament.”
