Barcelona may appoint a top coach as replacement.
Tito Vilanova, the Coach of Spanish champions, Barcelona, is set to leave the club on health grounds with immediate effect.
Vilanova is believed to have suffered a relapse of his cancer and his departure will be announced at a press conference.
Tito worked as an assistant to Pep Guadriola at Barca B and then for four successful seasons at the Barcelona senior team between 2008 and 2012, before stepping up to replace his long-time friend last summer.
He won the La-Liga title last season, his sole season as head coach, as the Catalan club equalled Real Madrid’s record of 100 points in the Primera Division. He was, however, absent for two months of the campaign after suffering a relapse.
Though club officials told Spanish reporters that Tito could return in future, in the meantime, Jordi Roura and former Girona coach, Rubi, are likely to take over the reins, although Barcelona may appoint a top level coach over the next few weeks.
