Chelsea Football Club of England have signed Australian International goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer.
Schwarzer, 40, who helped Australia qualify for the Brazil 2014 World Cup, has signed a one-year contract that will keep him with Chelsea until the tournament.
“It’s a phenomenal club,” Schwarzer said of his new club upon signing. ‘It’s one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, and it’s an honour to sign for Chelsea. I didn’t take much convincing to come here.”
Schwarzer, signed from fellow Premier League club, Fulham has spent more than 15 years in England with Bradford City, Middlesbrough and most recently Fulham.
Last season, he became the first overseas player to make 500 Premier League appearances.
Born in Sydney, the Australian goalkeeper made his international debut in 1994, and has since represented Australia 108 times, including at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
He is expected to present stiff competition for Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech.
