Athletics Championships: 4x100m relay ends in thrilling style

The Civil Defence won the women’s 4X100m.

Team Nigeria Junior A on Friday won the 4x100m men’s relay gold medal at the All Nigeria/Cross River Open Athletics Championships held in Calabar.

Nigeria’s Team A returned at 39.61 seconds ahead of the Nigeria Police which returned at 40.17 seconds for the silver and the Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at 40.24 seconds for the bronze.

The winner’s returning time, however, fell short of the national record of 37.94 set in 1997.

In the women’s 4x100m relay final, the NSCDC won the gold at 45.81 seconds, following the disqualification of Team Nigeria Junior B, after a faulty baton exchange.

The Nigeria Police returned at 45.92 seconds to claim the silver, while Cross River got the bronze at 46.98 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the 4x400m men’s relay, Team Nigeria Junior A posted a time of 3.33.14 seconds to win the gold ahead of the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police. The NSCDC finished at 3.35.64 seconds to win the silver, while the Nigeria Police finished at 3.46.25 seconds to claim the bronze.

In the women’s 4x400m, the NSCDC won the gold at 3.09.17 seconds, Nigeria Custom, the silver at 3.09.56 seconds and Team Nigeria Junior, the bronze, at 3.09.66 seconds.
