The Minister will be in Calabar all through the competition.
The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Bolaji Abdullahi, has opted to attend the 67th CRS/ALL NIGERIA ATHLETICS event in Calabar rather than travel across the seas to be with the Super Eagles in Brazil.
The Minister who from his appointment had stated that he is in charge of sports and not just football in the country has nonetheless been supportive of the Super Eagles such as in the recent bonus row between the team and Nigerian Football Association.
Mr. Abdullahi has promised to be Calabar from the start of the competition until the last athlete crosses the finishing line on Friday when the 3-day event will expectedly have a thrilling climax, organisers have said.
The Sports Minister, in company of the Cross River State Governor, will declare open the All Nigeria Athletics Championships later on Wednesday as the crème of Nigerian athletes take to the tracks to compete in the biggest event on the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) calendar.
Amongst other things, the Calabar event will be used to select Team Nigeria to the World Championships billed for Moscow, Russia form August 10 through 17.
