The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation said this on Saturday.
The Lagos State Government has offered its hostels at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos for the camping of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation (NWBF) team.
Victor Anusa, NWBF Secretary, who stated this, said on Saturday that the camping was to prepare the team for the Senior World Cup African qualifier slated for Angola in July.
The team was in dire need of sponsorship for the African qualifier.
Mr. Anusa said that the camping had partly solved the team’s lack of sponsorship for the qualifier adding that the team was expecting a reply from the National Sports Commission (NSC).
“Apart from the NSC, we had also made several appeals to both private and public organisations for sponsorship,” he said.
“The Babatunde Fashola-led administration has been a strong ally of the federation. The government was a part sponsor of the team to the African Junior championship held in March in South Africa.
“The response from the Lagos State Government is a timely one as that will give the team conducive environment and ample time to blend the players for the contest,” Mr. Anusa said.
The secretary thanked the state government for its support and pledged that the team would work hard to secure the only African slot for the World Cup, which would hold in Holland in October.
The Lagos State Government in March, assisted the federation with N11 million for the junior national team to participate at the African Junior championship in South Africa.
The African Junior championship was to select the only qualifier for the World Cup championship in Turkey in June. Nigeria, however, lost the lone African ticket to South Africa.
