The assistant coach is to act in interim capacity.

The Head Coach of the Ondo State sponsored Sunshine Stars International Football Club, Samuel Abimbola, has been sacked by the management of the club. His assistant, Napoleon Aluma, has been asked to take over temporarily.

The sack of the coach was announced by the Head of the Technical Committee of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Akin Akinbobola, who said the team had been performing below the expectation of the agency.

Sunshine Stars, Nigeria’s representatives in last year’s CAF Champions League, where they got to the semi finals, currently have 21 points from 15 matches and were 12th on the Nigerian Professional Football league (NPLF) Table.

Mr. Akinbobola said efforts to appoint a new coach were in progress, while Napoleon Aluma, the assistant coach of Sunshine Stars would take charge of the team for the main time until the new coach would be announced. He said that salaries of the technical committee of the club were slashed by half as the club’s performance was not encouraging.

“The technical committee saw it wise to part company with the head coach of the team. I announce that with immediate effect, Samuel Abimbola seizes to be the coach of Sunshine Stars FC,” he said.

The technical committee also said that Sunshine Queens also had a mandate to qualify for the coming Women Premier League that would be starting next season.

Wemimo Matthew, Head Coach of Sunshine Queens was redeployed to ODSFA Central Academy while her assistant, Oluwole Ajayi, would take charge of the team.

The Sunshine Queens are currently placed sixth in the Group B of Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) with 12 points from 9 matches.
