Elegbeleye was appointed on Wednesday as the new Director General of the National Sports Commission.
The newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has said it is great to be back to the sports arena once again.
Elegbeleye was the Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports representing Akoko North of Ondo State.
Speaking to Premium Times about his return to sports after a short absence, he said, “Well, it’s good to be back to Nigerian Sports. I wouldn’t want to say much about my plans now till after the inauguration but all the same it’s good to be back.”
Mr. Elegbeleye was appointed on Wednesday as the new Director General of the Sports Commission by President Goodluck Jonathan. He is expected to resume duty immediately in Abuja.
The new chief executive of Nigerian Sports is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State. Before being a member of the House of Representatives in the 2007-2011 session, he was a Local Government chairman in his state.
While at the National Assembly, apart from serving on the House Committee on Sports, he also served as a member of the Dominic Oneya-led Football Reform Committee. He holds a B.Sc degree and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
