The club owners dissolved the League Committee in a late night meeting.
The Nduka Irabor led Interim Management Committee (IMC) saddled with the running of the Nigeria Professional Football League has been voted out by representatives of 17 out of the 20 teams taking part in the League.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Sunday night as the club chairmen voted that the IMC should hands off the League.
The absentees from the meeting, Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt, Heartland Football Club of Owerri and Warri Wolves, all sent their apologies, and gave verbal support to any decision reached by the meeting thus meaning all the clubs are in unison on the issue.
Sunday’s meeting was conveyed in disregard for The Nigeria Football Federation order warning that the clubs should not hold the meeting, and should desist from any act that would derail the work of the interim committee.
The clubs, however, defied this instruction, insisting that the IMC, with the registration of the League Management Committee, have involved themselves in acts that is contrary to fair play, and have breached FIFA rules on the running of football.
The clubs have therefore ordered the NPL secretariat, under Tunji Babalola, to take over the activities of running the League until an election is held.
The latest drama may once more affect the smooth running of the League which got the unenviable tag of the longest played single season with the 2011/12 season going for about one year.
