Nigeria currently top Group B
Nigeria’s U17 team, the Golden Eaglets, were simply outstanding on Sunday night as they took their Ghanaian counterparts to the cleaners; whipping them 6-1 in their first match of the CAN U17 Championships taking place in Morocco.
A double brace from Isaac Success and goals from Bernard Bulbwa gave Nigeria a dream start at the biennial cadet African championships where Nigeria has been missing in action for the past two editions having failed to qualify.
In Sunday’s Group B fixture, Success put Nigeria ahead with just ten minutes into the game; and compatriot Bernard Bulbwa made it two in the 30th minute to put Nigeria two goals up.
Success scored his second on the night with five minutes to the break, as Eaglets take a 3-0 lead to the dressing room.
After the interval, Ghana seem to have thrown in the towel as the result seemed impossible to overturn, and it was the Eaglets that scored again, with Success grabbing his hat-trick in the 63rd minute.
An Eaglet was felled inside the 18 yard box, and Success stepped up to take and convert the penalty kick in the 68th minute; after Ghana’s Yeboah had pulled one back two minutes earlier.
The coach Manu Garba side now top their group after the other game played early on between Congo and Cote d’Ivoire ended in a 1-1 draw.
Another victory for Nigeria will not only secure a semi final spot but will also qualify the Eaglets for the U-17 World Cup coming up in Dubai.
