Igiebor returned late to the club after his stint at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Reports from Spain indicate that Nigeria international, Nosa Igiebor, has been slapped with a fine amounting to over N4.1m (€20,000) by his Spanish Club, Real Betis, as punishment for returning late from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Igiebor only returned to Spain on March 8, almost a month after winning the African competition with the Super Eagles.
According to the skilful midfielder, travel glitches which included visa issues accounted for his late return; but that did not stop Betis from opening a disciplinary case against him.
After consulting legal services, Betis were seen by Nosa’s representatives as unlikely to hit him with a fine of more than 30 per cent of his €25,000 (N5.2 million) monthly salary.
However, according to reports on Friday, the club has determined a maximum possible fine of 75 per cent of his wages for the month’s absence, equating to €20,000, in light of a charge of serious misconduct.
Betis are expected to announce their official decision next week.
The 22-year-old, who has made10 appearances his first season in La Liga, has been training regularly with the club since his return.
