AYC: Egbedi ruled out of third place match

The winger suffered an injury in a Group B match against DR Congo.

Flying Eagles winger, Edafe Egbedi, will again miss Friday’s third-place match against Mali after he failed a late fitness test.

Egbedi could not complete his light work-out because of pain in his left thigh and so was forced out of Thursday evening’s training.

The winger suffered the injury in a Group B match against DR Congo and so missed out on Tuesday’s semi-final against Egypt.

Either the experienced Bright Ejike or the upcoming Christian Pyagbara would now replace Egbedi on the right side of attack.

Coach John Obuh is expected to make a few changes especially upfront with Umar Aminu likely to start off the hard working Olanrewaju Kayode. Aminu fired a brace against DRC in the absence of the suspended Kayode.

The Flying Eagles will hope to avenge an opening day loss to Mali. They enjoyed more than 75% possession and created over a dozen clear chances, but could not cancel a 13th minute goal by Niane as the Junior Eagles from Bamako ran away with a famous victory.
