Ghana’s ‘King Kong’ Agbeko wins IBO Bantamweight title

It was Agbeko’s first fight in 15 months.

Ghana’s Joseph ‘King Kong’ Agbeko on Friday won the IBO Bantamweight title when he defeated Colombia’s Luis Melendez in 12 rounds in Accra.

Agbeko, the former IBF bantamweight champion, won on the cards of the referee and two judges.

Referee Deon Dwarte of South Africa scored the bout 117-111, Ataa Eddie Pappoe of Ghana made it 119-111 and Laten Oumgar of the Netherlands also scored the bout 117-113.

It was Agbeko’s first fight in 15 months and he was made to sweat for victory.
