Kano Pillars FC on Saturday defeated AC Leopards of Congo Brazaville 4-1 in the second round of the ongoing Orange CAF Champions League in Kano.
Pillars’ midfielder, Mustafa Musa, found the net in the 9th minute with a header.
In the 45th minute, Musa scored the second goal through another header after displacing the visitors’ defence.
Their defence became porous in the second half following pressures piled on them by the Pillars, with Gambo Mohammed and Manir Ubale causing the trouble.
Pillars’ striker, Ubale, took advantage of a defensive error by a Leopards’ defender and netted the third goal in the 52nd minute, to the cheers of the fanatical home fans.
Pillars’ new discovery Kabiru Umar came off the bench to score the fourth goal in the 85th minute.
The visitors pulled one back in the 70th minute of the entertaining encounter.
The head coach of Pillars, Babaganaru Mohammed, expressed delight at the performance of the team for picking the maximum points.
“I am pleased with the result of the match because the boys played very well and we took the maximum points and I thank God for that.”
“I also want to commend Leopard players for giving us tough fight and I like their fighting spirit.”
The head coach of the Congo team was absent at the post-match press conference.
