NPFL: Rangers defeat Enyimba to win oriental derby

Rangers of Enugu won the match 1-0.

Enugu Rangers got their season to a winning start as they defeated regional rivals, Enyimba International, by a lone goal in the first match of the season in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Dada Bitrus was the hero for the Flying Antelopes as he netted the only goal in the tense match in the 26th minute to put Rangers on the top of the League table.

Bitrus, after a scramble in front of goal, shot to the side of the post, putting the ball into the net. It was enough to secure all three points for Rangers.

Bitrus finally made headlines since joining Rangers two seasons ago from Unicem Rovers.

Enyimba struggled but failed to make any fruitful achievement at the long run as Rangers kept their promise of a winning start to the season.

The introduction of newly acquired Sibi Gwar almost paid off for the Peoples Elephant as he attempted scoring an equalizer off a fast counter attack few minutes after coming on; but Rangers’ goalkeeper pulled a save and forced a corner kick.

Rangers held on to their one goal advantage and thus replicate the same margin recorded last season in the same encounter when Chikeluba Ofoedu scored the only goal.
