NFF SAYS Nigeria will not bid to host the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has said Nigeria will not bid to host the 2019 African Nations Cup, AFCON.
The NFF Executive Secretary, Musa Amadu, said this on Thursday in his Abuja office.
“We are not bidding for the Nations cup 2019, I am not aware of the decision for Nigeria to bid for the Nations Cup 2019.
“It is a national bid and you have to get the approval of the necessary authority before you can now determine.
“I know that we intended to bid earlier but I can’t confirm that to you now,” Mr. Amadu said.
His statement douses the speculation making rounds that Nigeria will bid to host the 2019 AFCON.
Mr. Amadu said preparations for the World Cup qualifier against Kenya will begin in March.
“He will call the home based first, then the professionals will join later and I can confirm that the match will take place in Calabar.
“We know that all countries will come prepared and because of that we will ensure that we are fully prepared and we will make sure that we stay on top of Group F,” he said.
Mr. Amadu said Nigeria may play a friendly match after the qualifier “if there’s a FIFA window”.
