The matches to be played on Sunday have been postponed.
Following the qualification of the Super Eagles for the quarter final of the ongoing South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigeria National League, NNL, Wednesday announced the postponement of all Week 7 matches of the ongoing 2012/2013 league season, which are billed for Sunday. The matches were postponed to Monday, February 4.
The league body said that the shift in the date of the Week 7 matches was in appreciation of the Super Eagles, who are billed to face the Elephants of Cote d’ Ivorie in one of the quarter final games of Nations Cup in South Africa.
While confirming that Saturday’s matches of the NNL league will go on as planned, the league management urged all clubs to show solidarity by rallying together to support the Super Eagles .
The NNL also warned that it will not hesitate to sanction clubs whose playing ground have not been elevated to an approved standard.
The league secretary, Ayo Abdul Rahman, noted in a statement that the league has received several reports from its team of inspectors that some of the pitches which had earlier been approved for the games have been left by its owners to deteriorate.
While urging the clubs to ensure adequate maintenance of their facilities, Mr. Rahman revealed that the league organizers have begun a series of inspection of the pitches; warning that it will not fail to banish any team whose pitch will be indicted by the new reports from the inspectors.
